New File
Step #1
Step #2
Files can be Word docs, xls, Open Office files, SWF's or about anything you would like to store. Other users (with correct Role) can access - or - the files can be linked on a web page, app or pdf for download.
Files can be quite large. A Photoshop file with many layers can easily be in excess of 20 meg. When you upload a file to the web, be aware that it is NOT Younicycle that is 'slow', it is your Internet Service Provider that is the bottleneck.
Upload speed rarely equals Download speed. When vendors brag about speed - hey are almost always referring to download speed.
If you Upload with a local Server version of the Younicycle Server Package (to your own server), it will be very snappy.
Uploading a file is simple, though patience may be required (see Notes). After a file is uploaded, it can be referenced by Applications, Websites or Pdf's that you create from within your Account. Other Users can download as long as you have given them sufficient Privileges or the File is marked Public.
Be aware that if you Upload a file and then open the file, you are actually working from your local desktop application. Example:1) Upload an Illustrator file2) Someone (you or another User) opens it, makes changes & Saves.3) This person did actually NOT save into the Account, but instead, Saved to their local drive. If he/she wanted others to see the changes, it would be necessary to Upload the new file.
From your Menu, select New --> File.Give it a description, click Browse, locate the desired File on your local system and click Upload. Wait as long as is required (see Notes).
Make sure that you give it a description. Files are searchable ++ others may not know 'what it is' without a description.
1) You can locate Files by a search2) You can have a List view or Icon View. Below is Icon.3) You can place a file in a sepcific Folder4) You can add a New file or delete Files5) You can control the # of Files per page6) You can see your Total usage of disc quota7) You can Edit the File name
with List view (not displayed), you can also sort by name or modification date.
Clicking on a File will launch the appropriate Application on your Desktop, based on the extension (.txt, .psd, .ill, .doc, .xls, etc)
SWF's are a 'special' file type as an swf can be placed directly on a Web page or an Application.
The short Movies (see the link at top) are examples of swf's.
Recent Update:It is now possible to Import by Reference
If the File has a URL - you can reference the URL instead of directly importing.
